About the project

RSRF designed an all-carrier small cell and off-air passive distributed antenna system for Hyatt Place Titusville, a new hotel near Kennedy Space Center operated by BBL Hospitality in Titusville, Florida. The system was engineered to deliver in-building voice and data coverage for AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint across the full property.

BUILDING & CLIENT

Hyatt Place Titusville is a new five-story hotel near Kennedy Space Center, developed by BBL Hospitality.

Hyatt Place Titusville is a five-story hotel at 6299 Riverfront Center Blvd in Titusville, Florida, totaling roughly 72,000 square feet. It was BBL Hospitality's first Hyatt-brand property. Positioned near Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral, the hotel serves guests visiting the space coast, and reliable cellular service was treated as part of delivering the best possible guest experience.

PROBLEM

A new hotel built for space-coast travelers had poor cellular service in its lobby and lower floors.

As the property was being brought online, on-site teams flagged a lack of cellular service inside the building, especially on the lower floors and in the lobby. For a hotel built to host guests visiting Cape Canaveral and Kennedy Space Center, dead spots in the most-used common areas worked directly against the guest experience the property was built to deliver. BBL Hospitality wanted dependable all-carrier coverage throughout the building.

SOLUTION

A Small Cell and Off-Air Fed Passive DAS sourcing all four carriers.

RSRF designed a Small-Cell and Off-Air Fed Passive DAS for the property. The design combined two signal sources: enterprise-grade small cells connected to the hotel's backhaul internet for AT&T and Verizon, and off-air donor antennas feeding bi-directional signal boosters for T-Mobile and Sprint. Those sources are combined at a point of interface and distributed through a passive DAS of remote radio units, coaxial cabling, passive components, and in-building antennas.

The design used low-profile ultra-flat indoor dome antennas supporting 2G through 4G frequencies for discreet coverage throughout the hotel, with a GPS antenna and lightning surge protection supporting the small cell devices. RSRF's scope covered the engineering design, headend and small cell installation, cabling, antennas, passive components, commissioning, and post-installation testing, giving BBL Hospitality a single accountable partner for the deployment.

OUTCOME

An all-carrier coverage design engineered for the full hotel.

RSRF engineered an all-carrier small cell and off-air passive DAS to cover the entire five-story building, bringing AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint into a single in-building system. The design targeted the lobby, lower floors, and guest areas where coverage had been weakest, supporting the guest experience BBL Hospitality set out to deliver at its first Hyatt-brand property.
