About the project

RSRF designed and deployed an all-carrier active fiber DAS at the new Red Hawk Casino Hotel in Placerville, California, delivering reliable AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile coverage throughout the hotel for guests and staff.

BUILDING & CLIENT

Red Hawk Casino expanded its Placerville property with a new hotel tower.

Red Hawk Casino is a destination casino resort in Placerville, California, operated by the Shingle Springs Tribal Gaming Authority. As part of a major expansion of the property, the resort added a new hotel. For a hospitality destination of this kind, dependable in-building cellular coverage is part of the guest experience, so reliable connectivity for every major carrier was treated as essential infrastructure for the new building.

PROBLEM

A new hotel needed reliable coverage for all major carriers throughout the building.

The new hotel required consistent in-building cellular coverage for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile across guest rooms and common areas. Cellular signal at the property was inconsistent indoors, with usable coverage limited to just a few bars even in the best outdoor locations. For a multi-story hotel, the outside macro network could not deliver reliable coverage on its own, and the resort needed a partner who could engineer coverage for the full building and bring in signal for every carrier.

COMPLICATION

A new hotel build meant coordinating coverage with active construction.

The hotel was part of a larger property expansion under construction, so the DAS deployment had to be coordinated with construction timelines and the building's progress. Cellular coverage at the property was inconsistent indoors, so the system had to be engineered to deliver reliable signal across guest rooms, corridors, and public spaces for every major carrier, holding up across the full building rather than just the entrance and lobby.

SOLUTION

An off-air active fiber DAS engineered to serve all three carriers.

After reviewing the site, RSRF found that cellular signal was strong on the property's rooftop even where indoor coverage was poor. That made an off-air design the right approach: rather than waiting on dedicated carrier equipment, RSRF engineered a system that captures the strong rooftop signal and rebroadcasts it throughout the building.

RSRF deployed an active fiber Distributed Antenna System. Rooftop donor antennas feed the head-end equipment, where off-air channelized bi-directional amplifiers condition the signal for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. From the head end, fiber distributes signal to remote units throughout the hotel, which convert it to high-power RF for the in-building antennas. The design supported LTE and 5G NR and was engineered to exceed the minimum RSRP threshold across the covered area, with antennas placed to deliver consistent coverage across guest rooms and common spaces.

OUTCOME

Reliable all-carrier coverage throughout the new hotel.

RSRF delivered an off-air active fiber DAS covering the new Red Hawk Casino Hotel, bringing dependable AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile coverage to guest rooms and common areas alike. Because the system reuses the strong rooftop signal, the resort gained full in-building coverage without depending on carrier scheduling or a dedicated signal source agreement. Post-installation, RSRF's Network Operations Center provides ongoing monitoring, maintenance, and support under a multi-year service agreement.
