About the project

RSRF designed and deployed an active fiber DAS across Roku's 750,750 square foot San Jose headquarters, bringing reliable in-building coverage for all three major carriers online across a five-building campus in time for the company's annual event.

BUILDING & CLIENT

Roku's San Jose headquarters anchors the Coleman Highline development near Mineta San Jose International Airport.

Roku is a nationally recognized streaming technology company. Its corporate headquarters at 1155 Coleman Avenue spans roughly 750,750 square feet across five buildings, including four multi-story office buildings and a dedicated event center. The campus was built to consolidate Roku's operations into a single flagship location housing thousands of employees, and reliable cellular coverage was treated as essential infrastructure from the start.

PROBLEM

A newly built glass campus needed dependable in-building cellular coverage before its first major event.

When RSRF engaged on the project, the campus was still under construction, with the core, shell, and glass curtain walls in place. Modern commercial glass and the scale of the buildings made dependable indoor cellular coverage difficult to achieve from the surrounding macro network alone. Roku planned to bring its workforce online quickly and wanted the system performing in time for its annual company event, which set a firm deadline for design, installation, and commissioning.

COMPLICATION

Scale, strict aesthetics, and a phased rollout across five buildings raised the bar on execution.

The deployment spanned five buildings on a single campus, each requiring its own distribution while remaining part of one coordinated, expandable system. Visual standards were strict: antennas and cabling had to stay discreet, with exposed components kept white and low-profile to match the architecture. The work also had to align with active construction and a phased occupancy plan, so coverage had to come online in stages without disrupting the buildings already in use.

SOLUTION

An active fiber DAS engineered for expandability across the entire campus.

RSRF designed and deployed an active fiber Distributed Antenna System sized for the full campus. Active fiber was selected over a passive approach because of the distances and floor count involved. Head-end equipment was centralized, and signal was distributed over fiber to remote units throughout each building, then to ultra-thin, low-profile antennas chosen to meet the campus aesthetic requirements.

On-site signal sources provisioned coverage for all three major carriers, with initial provisioning for AT&T and Verizon and a clear path to carrier-grade sources as the system matured. The design left headroom to add capacity and extend coverage as Roku occupied more of the campus.

OUTCOME

Coverage across all five buildings, delivered in time for Roku's annual event.

RSRF delivered an active fiber DAS covering all five buildings of the campus, with on-site signal sources bringing the major carriers online for employees and visitors. The system was engineered for expandability, leaving room to grow as occupancy increased and as carrier-grade signal sources were integrated over time. The deployment was completed on schedule, with coverage in place ahead of Roku's annual all-hands event.
